How we monitor our sites

This section contains descriptions of the methods we use to obtain data from the lake and stream sites across the network.

The methodology for the various aspects of the Monitoring Programme has been determined by extensive discussion and consultation within the Acid Waters Review Group and between participating laboratories within the Monitoring Network and outside experts. Standard techniques are utilised throughout and are summarised in the pages below. The multifaceted nature of the Upland Waters Monitoring Programme determines that field sampling and laboratory analysis of biological and chemical determinands are the responsibility of several organisations and laboratories. The roles of participating institutions are listed on the collaborators page of this website.
